The Bible will Change Your LIFE!
I love to read the Bible, but I have to confess, I miss going to Sunday School. All those years of week after week of listening to an enthusiastic Bible teacher take me through books of the Bible was more beneficial than I knew at the time. It gave me a great overview of entire books and actually taught me how to study.
But even though I do miss Sunday School, I know that I have to feed myself – teach myself! I do thoroughly enjoy listening to an anointed preacher, but I don’t hold them responsible for my growth. Part of being a mature Christian is being able to teach yourself out of the Bible with the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth (that is one of the functions of the Holy Spirit).
“…when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13
After all those years of Sunday School going book by book through the Bible, month after month, that’s how I study. I tend to read through an entire book at a time and take side rabbit trails, but always return to the book I am in. Years ago, I started taking notes as I studied with a simple little spiral notebook. It was always an encouragement to look back and see what I was doing at the time because I write notes about praying for things and the verses that answered my prayers for direction and encouraged me to keep going until the answers came.
Well, maybe we all need a little help. The New Year is a good time to start a comprehensive Study Through the Bible.
Where Would You Like to Go This Year?
You can read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation or read it Chronologically – in order of how things happened… or several other different ways.
You don’t have to start in January either. You can start at any time, but the point is JUST START! Don’t condemn yourself if you miss days and get behind. Wherever you are, pick it up and continue on!
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22
If you don’t DO what you are reading….you are deceiving yourself. Reading will require action, but you will never regret it!
And remember – when you read, the Author is always present to teach you and guide you into what He would have for you that day. Reading the Bible will certainly change your life!
