Perhaps, O tried soul, the Lord is doing this to develop thy graces. There are some of thy graces which would never have been discovered if it were not for the trials.
“God trains His soldiers…
…not in tents of ease and luxury, but by turning them out and using them to forced marches and hard service. He makes them ford through streams, and swim through rivers and climb mountains, and walk many a weary mile with heavy knapsacks on their backs. Well, Christian, may not this account for the troubles through which you are passing? Is not this the reason why He is contending with you?” — C. H. Spurgeon
I had a pastor who used to say (frequently), “Satan fights the hardest where he most fears defeat”. God uses Satan like a dog on the end of a chain to test and try us. The trial could be physical, financial, emotional, at your job, in your home, with your husband, children, neighbors…there is no end to the variety of difficulties we can encounter.
Once you settle it in your heart that God has PERMITTED your trials, you will be far better enabled to withstand in the evil day and to learn how to OVERCOME the problem. God permits trials and He teaches us through the trial. Embrace it and declare that you are the Lord’s, sink or swim. Bring back to God’s remembrance all the verses in His work that apply to your case and remind God that you claim them for yourself and you are standing on them. No matter what comes your way, absolutely refuse to allow anyone to sway you from believing that the Word of God is TRUE and it is TRUE for YOU!
You are being tested & trained by God because your faith is as solid gold to Him.
Your faith and trust in God is infinitely precious. The LORD trieth the righteous…. Psalm 11:5. He examines the righteous to see where they need to be more like Jesus and he tests them.
1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ… (KJV)
(Another translation of this verse – the New Living Translation): These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold–though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
To be left unmolested by Satan is no evidence of blessing.
Is there a reward for what you are going through? Oh yes! The reward will be for your faithfulness and obedience to the Word of God, and the reward is HUGE. Compared to the reward, what we are going through is considered as a “light, momentary affliction”.
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory…” 2 Corinthians 2:17.
Sometimes we will see our reward here on earth in this lifetimes, but sometimes the reward is not received until heaven. “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9.
Do you want to change your life? Get a glimpse of God’s point of view and the value of your suffering. Keep your eyes on the reward and realize that God is training you and WILL reward your faith and trust in Him.
